JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jaxport's board has approved the decision to take over the Mayport Ferry operations from the City of Jacksonville.
The board held a meeting on Monday to decide the fate of the ferry after $369,000 in funding was cut from the state budget by Governor Charlie Crist.

In July, the port's board discussed what it would take to keep the ferry afloat. Raising fees, reducing hours, and retiring two of the older ferries were some of the options mentioned.

Though the decision was approved by the board, the City of Jacksonville still has to give its approval before it becomes final.
