I hope it doesn't get as bad as the 1783 eruption

Consequences of the 1783 iceland eruption in North America
In North America, the winter of 1784 was the longest and one of the coldest on record. It was the longest period of below-zero temperatures in New England, the largest accumulation of snow in New Jersey, and the longest freezing over of Chesapeake Bay. There was ice skating in Charleston Harbor, a huge snowstorm hit the south, the Mississippi River froze at New Orleans, and there was ice in the Gulf of Mexico

High latitude volcanic eruptions have far less climatic impacts than tropical ones, simply because troposphere/stratosphere exchange occurs primarily in the tropics where vertical motion is strongest and the tropopause is more "open". In the high latitudes, with synoptic weather events and stronger stratification, injecting lots of sulfate aerosols into the stratosphere AND moving it around the globe is much more difficult.

Finally we can ice skate in Gulf.

Two words:
Nikola Tesla
Nikola Tesla created own earthquake back in 1891.He also worked on "death ray" and many other inventions that we only see in SCIFI movies.
When he died FBI and US government confiscated his documents and made them Top Secret.
What kind of secrets did they find only they know.

Umm that's was know way before Wikipedia that FBI entered his room and took stuff out of safe.
Death ray, earthquake machine and wireless electrical power are some of his ideas that they might have been taken out of safe.
He also had some other projects that we never learned about.
Now if he was able to produce small earthquake with his technology I am sure governments could do much more.

Here ya go Bos... the "eartnquake machine did nothing but produce mechanical resonance... a well known phenomena.  You continue to fall for urban legands...

QuoteEarthquake machine

Tesla's later evolution of his electromechanical oscillator shown at the World's Columbian Exposition.Nikola Tesla established a laboratory at 46 E Houston Street in New York. There, at one point while experimenting with mechanical oscillators, he allegedly generated a resonance of several buildings causing complaints to the police. As the speed grew he hit the resonance frequency of his own building and belatedly realizing the danger he was forced to apply a sledge hammer to terminate the experiment, just as the astonished police arrived.[5] The Discovery Channel's popular MythBusters show examined Tesla's claim that he had created an "Earthquake Machine" in their 60th episode. They tested the physical phenomenon known as mechanical resonance on a traffic bridge, reportedly feeling the bridge vibrating many yards away.

In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

More activity and wind/weather current action at the higher latitudes than the tropics (or tropopause as someone iterated); therefore, more propensity for higher distribution of ash and other effects from the volcanic explosions in the higher latitudes.

HU, the tropopause is the layer between the troposphere and the stratosphere. It is easily seen in the summer because that is where thunderstorms get their anvil shape from, by hitting the tropopause and causing the cloud to spread out.

I'm not very concerned right now since this activity just got underway and we have no real way that is effective in prediciting what is next. In other words, sitting back and watching is about the most we can do, no matter what instruments and such are used to measure volcanic activity.

Reed, were you an aviation specialist in the Navy? Air traffic control, perhaps?
