Hillsborough County Transportation Tax

The debate in Tampa is getting good....with completion of TBARTA's regional vision for transportation, now they need to work out ballot language for the 2010 referendum

It looks like money from the tax would be allocated as follows:

Rail - 42%
Bus - 33%
Roads - 25%

Lakelander and I have been saying for over a year that this will be a hard sell in Hillsborough County...either way, the results will likely shape what happens here in terms of additional transportation funding

The County Commission approved the following ballot language on Wednesday...

"Shall transportation improvements throughout Hillsborough County, Tampa, Temple Terrace and Plant City be funded by levying a one percent transportation sales surtax from January 1, 2011 until repealed, deposited into a dedicated trust fund, all spending reviewed by an independent oversight committee of citizens and experts, with 75 percent spent on transit, including local rail and an expanded bus system for express, local and neighborhood service, and 25 percent spent on improving roads and other transportation projects?"

Note that they have yet to vote officially to place this referendum on the November 2010 ballot.

GOB's are trying to find ways to make money off of this situation tufsu and they will postpone ballot insertion as long as it takes till one of them has a brain flash and only then will it make it! Can't wait to see just who makes up the "Oversight Committee"............want to bet JEB gets tapped?

why would JEB get tapped for a local government board in Tampa?

Because of his stature within the State! He does have a certain noteriety within certain circles.............which I don't travel in by the way! Name recognition goes along way does it not?
