#48 Palm Avenue:

I-95, Jacksonville
Weekly hours of bottleneck congestion: 45
Worst bottleneck: Northbound, Palm Ave
Length of worst bottleneck: .57 mi
Weekly hours of congestion on worst bottleneck: 10
Speed of worst bottleneck when congested: 21.5 mph
Commuter Buzz: There is a lot of congestion coming out of Clay County, Joe Mobley, vice president of The Fiorentino Group, told the Jacksonville Business Journal in June 2009. The First Coast Outer Beltway could provide another option for people to get to work."

The only Palm Ave. near I-95 that I know of is on the Southbank......perhaps they got confused.....?

There are no bad commutes in Jacksonville.  Trust me on this.

I'm surprised the Tappan Zee Bridge in NY didn't make the list.  When I used to commute across it, it took an average of an hour to drive the three mile span on a Friday afternoon.  Or any weekday between 7:30 and 9:00 AM.  Or any weekend with bridge repair (which was EVERY weekend).

Throw in the occasional closure for a jumper into the Hudson River, falling ice from the upper trusses or an accident resulting in fiery death and you were looking at a minimum of an hour re-route north (to the Bear Mountain Bridge) or an hour south (to the George Washington Bridge).

Park Avenue is US17 @ I295, and the commute does suck from there.

Whats funnier though is although Blanding and US17 traffic sucks getting onto I295 at times, the merging traffic from St Augustine and San Jose compound the issue. By the time traffic gets to San Jose or St Augustine Rd, it consists of westside and clay county traffic. This is then added to by all the mandarin traffic. Ive seen worse backups that back up the buckman bridge than I do with blanding traffic.

The issue isn't just blanding, 17, san jose, or st augustine rd. Its I295. Too much traffic has to rely on that route. What is it? 120K cars a day just on the buckman bridge? Add a wreck @ St Augustine Rd and you are screwed coming from the westside or clay. And then everyone detours onto San Jose, screwing that traffic even more.

The outer beltway would only help if they build a bridge in Fleming Island, not in Green Cove Springs.
Thanks developers for looking out for our best interests.

Please spare us the tired routine of "We have more, better, worse, bigger, smellier, sweeter, smoother, rougher, smaller, taller... WHATEVER up north! Chances are you'll live longer and happier in Dixie, the quicker you lose that habit.  ;) ;D

I've been over the Tappan Zee several times, and call it dumb luck or whatever you'd like and I'll take it over Blanding any day.  At least Tappan Zee is on a limited access highway so when you park, some goofy kid in a monster truck isn't trying to cut in from the 7-11 store.

Wha? Come on now, Blanding in Clay County sucks beyond all comprehension!
Jacksonville: We're not vertically challenged, just horizontally gifted!

Palm Avenue is at the southern base of the Fuller Warren Bridge, by Baptist Hospital. And it'll only get better as the overland bridge replacement gets rolling.  ;)

I know where it is.....and the claim that that's a bad traffic area, let alone one of the worst 75 in the US, is ridiculous.

Reaper man

I'm surprised blanding near 295 didn't make the list.

Jason

Looks to me like the roadway in question is the section of I95 above Palm Avenue on the southbank.

That seciont can get pretty thick but it still no worse than Blanding, Park Avenue, or the I295 south to I95 north merger.

CS Foltz

I-95 North bound past malfunction Junction at the morning rush hour is not real good...........I-10 East bound from the 295 split is something else..........I've taken an hour and a half to go that 2.5 miles east bound!

Steve

Based on the description, it has to be Park Avenue (US17 in Clay County).
