Lakelander started this subject thread, but it got hijacked, so I'm posting this to give the subject a new start:

QuoteMorrow said by October JTA plans to begin the final stages of the road network design phase. She said the entire project â€" which includes... a regional Intelligent Transportation System management center

Isn't this sort of like "Postal - Service" or "Military - Intelligence?"

The pictures are pretty, but the darn thing is scattered all over La Villa. If Greyhound, is smart, they'll soon be out of this, unless the City sweetens the deal and "Gives" them the station. Ditto for Amtrak.

Sure the pictures are pretty, but as a Transportation Center... and let's call it WHAT IT IS, Jacksonville Terminal, built for ease of connections, when JTA's "Intelligent Management" is through with it, it doesn't provide connectivity. Why not deal with the Convention Center FIRST, get it the hell out of La Villa, then we can go into Prime Osbourne and build a REAL TC, the way Jacksonville Terminal planned in the first place.

With the Convention Center out of the way, the door swings open to build the entire center within the historic Jacksonville Terminal/Post Office property. When the skyway was pushed down to the Jefferson Street Station, it was a mistake, IF that is what they planned for a terminus. Otherwise, it SHOULD HAVE been built on the track side of the Station. Bus loading and unloading should also be at the trackside and enough platforms provided for future commuter rail and Light Rail. Funny that JTA's "intelligent management" never seems to think beyond the latest project of the day. Even the USDOT suggested Jacksonville rebuild the Terminal as a Transportation Center back in the late 1980's WITH 12 TRACKS! For those who don't believe we will see the North East Corridor come to Jacksonville, just look at the projects on the current front burner. Miami Central Station at MIA, new CSX center in Central Florida, Jacksonville TC (screwed up as it is), CSX just applied for the grant for 3 to 4 tracks, 100 MPH+ speeds, Washington DC to Jax and (maybe) Miami. Can't JTA see the hand writing is on the wall? God, I'm sorry, my bad, of course they don't!

After the old station burned, I got permission from the City to dig thorough the rubble... Guess what I found? Yep, in 1919 they thought the station would have to be expanded by the late 1950's. So it was built with expansion in mind, I have the book. It's a little burned, but readable, I wonder if JTA has seen it? Their track record suggests, if they had, they would have rushed it to the North-side Landfill. "The City must not know... we want all of La Villa... we need a palace to rule from..."
