So a few years ago i heard that upon the completion of The Strand/Peninsula buildings, that a publix would follow in the area (servicing downtown and san Marco). Does anyone know if there are any plans for a publix or any other grocery stores?

There is a plan for a Publix at Hendricks and Atlantic, where they tore down the Wachovia building.

I wish they would put one at 8th and Main where the old Pic N Save was.

It will be built when the attached condos are built. So, when that will be is anybody's guess.

there's a publix just a 2 miles North of 8th & Main on Norwood Avenue that noone seems to acknowledge.

that's why one is not coming here anytime soon (unless that one relocates).

San Marco grocery store?  Until the Publix/condo project is resolved, you have to go to a Publix at University and Atlantic, Riverside, or University and St. Augustine Road.  Winn Dixie is in Lakewood at University and San Jose.  There is a Banner mini-grocery on San Marco Blvd. near Bistro Aix.  Don't forget the Super Walmart on Phillips between Emerson and University.

Last full fledged grocery in San Marco was the A & P at the current Bank of America site in the Square some 40+ years ago.  Pic n' Save in the Square had some groceries but not full line.
Hey!  Whatever happened to just plain ol' COMMON SENSE!!

Ive been to that one a few times, and its not exactly what i look for in a Publix. When it first opened it was nice, but i guess they're catering to the clientele....cause I've never seen chitterlings & pig feet in any other publix.

yes, i agree it's not up to par with any other Publix i've seen.

Not a coincidence that they serve a lower income area, i'm sure.

I visited a couple months ago.

The one on Norwood isn't nowhere near as nice as the others. I prefer going to the one in Riverside instead

You'd be surprised at the "lncome level" of the shoppers...about the same as Riverside's Publix. As far as it relocating, i doubt it...that place is always packed. The only thing i can say is that the staff is very friendly.

Mark, Tony and their partners were supposedly planning on a groc in the old library, but we'll be lucky to see anything from that development by the next presidential elections.

Omarvelous09, you're absolutely right they do have chitterlings and pig feet.  I thought you were being sarcastic so I called them after my curiosity got the better or me.  I agree with everyone else this publix isn't up to par, but that is the fault of the company.  This practice is what lead to the almost demise of Winn Dixie.  This is a slippery slope and when companies allow standards to slip in some places it's not long before this trend goes all over.

It has always had what we at our house call "The Winn Dixie Smell"

Ha ha...no i wasn't being sarcastic, i go there sometimes....when i don't feel like battling Riverside Publix. The one perk about the Gateway publix, is that they offer the largest selection of publix brand stuff I've ever seen. love cheap groceries

Just a slight dogleg from the Thread here - re: cheap groceries:  Walgreen's are everywhere and they carry a pretty impressive selection of items you always need, grocery-wise;  also, for cheap foods, check Big Lots canned selections.  Can of cranberry sauce for 33 cents - nothing wrong with it.  And now back to our Thread, already in progress.
