Foot-stompin' honky-tonk, experimental psychedelia, smooth rootsy swing, jazz-flavored alt-jams and honest acoustic observations; told with fiddle, cello, steel, sitar, sax, stomp, and lots of guitars. Loosely collected under the banner 'Americana', the music on The Cross-Pollination Project Volume 1 ranges widely in style, but retains a collective cohesion. These songs fit together not because they sound alike, but because the people making the music fit together as friends and fellow travelers on the journey.

The Cross-Pollination Project came together in early 2009, when Trey Andrews observed that almost all of the local musicians he admired had excellent self-produced recordings, but that these records weren't generating as much excitement as he felt they deserved. The original idea was to put selected tracks from selected artists together, release a full-length CD and generate interest for everyone involved. When approached about the project, it quickly became apparent that many of the musicians had new material and would want to make new recordings, if given the opportunity... and so in addition to records made at established studios, Andrews' home studio got a workout, producing new material for four of the seven acts.

Fourteen original songs from seven artists complete this volume. The CD is packaged very simply, in a rough 100% recycled sleeve with hand-stamped graphics. The website, www.crosspollinationproject.com, presents the lyrics, photos and information you'd otherwise find in the liner notes, as well as video interviews and performances from the artists.

On Thursday, October 1, Jack Rabbits will host all seven acts for the CPP CD Release Show. Mallory McKendry, Kristi Stice, Arvid Smith, Shawn Lightfoot, Louie LeClaire, Amy Hendrickson & The Prime Directive and Longfellow Street will perform songs from the CD and more. Doors open at 8pm, music starts at 8:30.
