wow.  40 million dollars less.

Thats a lot of school lunches.

Isnt it about time that the textbooks went digital?

QuoteThe Duval County School Board approved its $1 billion operating budget for 2009-10 Tuesday night - about a 4 percent drop from the approved budget for the previous year.

The new budget of $1.006 billion is about $40 million less than the one set for 2008-09.

The board voted unanimously to approve the budget. Board member Betty Burney voted via telephone.

Board member Stan Jordan, who is leaving next month because he ran for the state Senate, was the only board member to vote against the additional quarter-mill property tax. The district plans to put the extra money into reserves.

Jordan said he didn't think the district needed the money right now, especially when property owners are struggling financially. Owners of property with a taxable value of $175,000 could pay about $9 more next year, depending on the change in the value of the property.
