Brunswick Killings - Media Conviction

Burn to Shine

So, I've seen this story on the news lately and what shocks me (almost as bad as the crime) is the fact that the news media has convicted this man before he's even had a trial.  The nightly news station in particular - not being from around here I can't quote the name of it but you know which one I'm talking about.  They keep saying - "he beat" so and so and "he did" this or that.

If the guy did it - I agree it's heinous but geez do we all not get a fair trial anymore?  WTH?!

Agreed...the jury is still out (no pun intended since he hasn't been even properly arraigned yet I guess).  It doesn't matter which of the 4 or 5 local media outlets you are speaking of. They are all the same. It seems true through the entire country (I travel fairly regularly and the news dudes and babes seem to all have the same "schooling"). To me it is pretty disturbing.  Hype and sensationalism sells. Plus, they are now big on furthering their hype on their websites.

They tend to post a banner or title and wait for the "idiots" to comment. I see the same things on the Boston Herald's website that I see on Jax.com or First Coast News etc. You would think it is the same person(s) posting in both Jax and Boston. I know that it isn't but they love to bait the lowest common denominator.

They're going off the very limited info given out by the Glynn County Sheriff, which is quite puzzling and frustrating.

He says 2 pieces of evidence came forward the same day he was released. The fact he hasn't stated what makes me think they're just looking for someone to pin it on because the have no real leads.

I still don't see how one person could "beat" 8 PEOPLE to death w/o anyone hearing anything or of the sort. Something certainly isn't right with this investigation.

The fine products of the Ron Burgandy University of Broadcast Journalists.

I find it hard to see how 1 person can beat 8 people to death in such a confined area. Perhaps he is being used as bait.

Its why we work so hard to maintain civility around here.

I think the civility level is pretty high here. We can have petty and substantial disagreements but at least we can all get our thoughts out without it seeming like a night at WWF or something.

My dad and I had a similar conversation on the phone the other night. How could you beat that many people to death and nobody is fighting back?

Burn to Shine

Yeah I said the same thing the other night.  How is it even possible?  I may be stepping into a wasps nest but I think they have done the same thing in the Cummings case.  I hope they are still looking at more leads regardless of what the media is doing.  It's not right to sway the people like this.  Some people who believe everything the news "reports" are bound to end up on a real jury someday.  It's scary.

I removed the jax.com link since it wasn't the outlet I was originally talking about.  It's the TV media mainly.

NotNow

Glynn County is right to keep most of the investigation sealed.  The media would only distort the facts and make their own uninformed conclusions anyway.  At least 60% of what you see on the nightly news is either distorted or outright wrong.  "Journalism" has hit rock bottom.

By MJ, you mean Michael Jackson - not Metro Jacksonville, no?  ;)

You are thinking sober wide awake people?

The channel I despise is Action4News.  I finally figured it out tonight while sitting through ten whole minutes of gossip and Facebook page displays on the PV kidnapping fiasco.  It's an embarrassment.

Hey, it is her profile was public so why not.

She's a whore anyways and no respect should be given to her. She has drug her entire family's name into the mud.
