The North Florida Transportation Planning Organization (North Florida TPO) wants to gather public input on specific transportation projects needed in the four-county metropolitan area at a series of six public open house meetings scheduled from Aug. 17-27.

Every five years, the North Florida TPO revises the area transportation plan which has a 20-25 year time horizon and addresses roads, transit, freight, bike and pedestrian needs for our growing region. This year’s update will look at growth projected to the year 2035. Known as the “Long Range Transportation Plan Envision 2035,” the update will be completed in November.

Area citizens and business owners are encouraged to participate in the open house meetings. Participants will have the opportunity to review maps showing forecasted areas of congestion and comment on proposed road and transit projects to address these needs.

The final public meetings in mid October will focus on funding and prioritizing specific transportation projects. The ongoing public input and plan update process will conclude with a public hearing this November to adopt the recommended plan.

Visit www.envision2035.com to see the proposed project list and maps or call 306-7500 for more information.

The North Florida TPO is an independent regional agency responsible for transportation planning in Duval County and most of Clay, St. Johns and Nassau counties. The TPO board is composed of elected officials and representatives from local transportation agencies. They meet monthly providing direction and making the ongoing decisions that implement the big-picture strategy.

I believe there will be a more in-depth piece about the proposed LRTP Needs Plan in the coming days on this site...as well as in the Times-Union.

I just attended the TPO meeting at the Bartram Trail Library, and left my comments on priorities:

1  Light Rail along San Jose
2. Hybrid-Electric busses for BRT
3. Kneel busses for all new bus purchases

I also commented that I loved their planned commuter rail routes.

Don't forget to leave your comments when you go to one of the TPO meetings.

About 25 people attended.

Well the TPO is off to a great start, they apparently can't find the St. Johns County Library, let's hope the transportation plans are somewhat better.

don't be so quick to judge Ock....the mistake above is not the TPO's, but Faye's retyping of the meeting dates...check the website yourself!

Thanks for pointing that out. Mocking the TPO is no way for them to take us serious.

Didn't really matter who done it, it appeared as the TPO list, but if it was Faye's typo, so be it. I just thought here we are all talking about getting from A to B, and we're thinking STAUG is in JAX?
OOPS. What a hoot...LOL.

I agree Stephendare!
