I'm filling in for Stephen today.

I'm down at City Hall in the Mayor's Office.  In the next few minutes he will be giving the details on the city's latest plan for downtown.  Right now, the screen says:

The press conference has not started but the rumor is this has something to do with Metropolitan Park and perhaps the Friendship Fountain area.  Soon we'll all find out if that rumor is right.

Now Joey from Urbanjacksonville.info has joined me.  He overheard Tia Mitchell say that it has something to do with the riverfront and Metropolitan Park.

The Mayor is now going over the budget scenerio.  He says things are currently flat.  We're about $16 million off of where we were last year.   Our expenses are down, due to a cut in the amount of fuel we use.

Our city's revenue will be down between $10-$20 million next year.  Our expenses are increasing between $25-$40 million.

The Mayor just mentioned the Peninsula as a development that wants the Riverwalk.  That was a hint.

He would like to see the Northbank and Southbank riverwalks be extended to Memorial Park (see hint above) and San Marco.

He wants Friendship Park to be similar to Millenium Park in Chicago.

Now he is talking about Brooklyn Park and the project (Hallmark) next door.  It will have office space and a hotel.  Its expected to come out of the ground before the end of the year.
