I can't believe this thing is not on here yet, but I saw this gem of a quote from Peyton:

• At Monday’s Rotary Club of Jacksonville meeting, Peyton said if the City went to court with Waste Management over the Trail Ridge Landfill contract, “We don’t have lawyers good enough (to handle the case) in the Office of General Counsel. We’d have to hire Hank Coxe and that would cost a fortune.” After the meeting, Coxe, a club past-president and former president of the Florida Bar, was asked if he minded Peyton’s comment. Coxe replied, “No. It’s great to get a plug from the mayor.”

Wow, way to pat your General Counsel on the back!

What an asshat, plain and simple.

You shouldn't be allowed to be mayor if you do not live in Duval County. Cough, Peyton, give up your seat please.
Jacksonville: We're not vertically challenged, just horizontally gifted!

Sounds like Peyton got a fat kick back from WM and is doing everything possible to protect that.
And though I long to embrace, I will not replace my priorities: humour, opinion, a sense of compassion, creativity and a distaste for fashion.

Geez, the City has 40 lawyers on staff. Most in Jax. Sad state of affairs when the mayor is cutting Rick and his team off at the legs.  :'(
And, that $115 will save Jacksonville from financial ruin. - Mayor John Peyton

"This is a game-changer. This is what I mean when I say taking Jacksonville to the next level."
-Mayor Alvin Brown on new video boards at Everbank Field

Outrageous comment ... but is it untrue?
Shipyards contract (anybody seen our $30M?)
Original Trail Ridge contract (if it was written well, we would be in this cluster now)
Botched Public Records Requests
there are other examples, but I can't think of them right now

What is the status of the Trail Ridge matter?
Is this going to be opened up for bids?

I believe that it will more less have to be open for bid, since the waste management deal for the no-bid, side stepping city policy has been withdrawn. Of course, they can resubmit it, but it would have to also include significant changes. However, I believe the public outcry over this will pretty much force Peyton and his crew to let this go to bid
