The downtown Starbuck's will be closing on April 21.

It will be interesting to see how long it sits empty.

Maybe an independent could come in and do coffee during the day, and wine at night.
See www.javavino.com for an example.

How cool is JavaVino! I visited their website but see no reference to expansion. There are folks here now with similar coffee connections. Maybe they'll be inspired!

I only offer them as an example of a concept someone in Jax could study.
It's not really much of a stretch for an operator with some experience

Call it CBWB (Coffee Bar/ Wine Bar) and crib the C.B.G.B.'s tee-shirt and logo.
(and then get sued...)

If one coffee shop is forced to close, I doubt another would want to open in that space.

Why are they closing?

Because the chain is in financial trouble.  They are closing most of the locations they opened over the last couple of years.

Wonder if three layers could get the free rent deal for location number two.

They had terrible hours anyway. Tried to go there at 8 o'clock on a Sunday night and they were closed.

Nothing ceases to amaze me in this city. With both the Carling and 11E in walking distance and both near capacity (last I heard), you would think the Starbucks would have at least a steady stream of customers.

Come on y'all, it's a Seattle Chain trying to make it in Jacksonville... Never happen, they don't serve

Pickled Pigs Feet
Pork Rinds
Dark sweet Southern Ice Tea
or
Krispy Kreme Donuts

Outta touch with the 5 basic Southern food groups.

Oh crud, then I'm not Southern enough. I only like the donuts in moderation, but can NOT STAND sweet tea!

So, are we gonna give them a nice patronage send-off?

Combined, 11 East and the Carling only have 227 apartment units total.  A retail business needs a much larger customer base to survive.  It also did not help that there is another Starbucks three blocks away.  I guess when it came down to picking one to leave open, Starbucks considered the Landing as a better location with a higher pedestrian traffic count.

It just never made any sense to me, why they opened one so close to the one at the Landing.
