Something to keep in mind when we speak to people abouut Mass Transit:

"The transportation sector accounts for 2/3 of U.S. petroleum use, and is one of the largest and fastest growing sources of greenhouse gas emissions." It really should have our priority.

Townhall meeting announcement from an e-mail I got:

Dear Sustainable Jacksonville Members,

This Monday evening, you have the opportunity to participate in a public Town Hall meeting in your area to discuss questions about how we as a community should grow.

  Town Hall Meetings will be held simultaneously in each of the 7 First Coast counties from 6:30pm - 7:30pm (see below for your county's location).  At each Town Hall meeting, participants will answer, as a group, questions from the Reality Check First Coast's "Grow Smart Survey".

After the group has answered the questions, they will hear a presentation on Reality Check First Coast and Regional Visioning.  Then, there will be public discussion. Survey results will be transmitted to WJCT (our local PBS station), and at 8pm, WJCT will begin a live program featuring a local panel (with expertise in land use and development, transportation, and natural resources) who will discuss the survey results as well as "how a Regional Vision can help us create the future you want to see".

One thing to consider as you answer the survey questions - improving the economy, preserving the environment, and addressing growth are not mutually exclusive goals and that we should try to come up with a comprehensive plan that addresses each of these.

I hope many of us will attend. Since I already have another meeting in Daytona on Monday evening, I might stop at the Flagler county Townhall meeting on my way back.
