QuoteMayor John Peyton named Keri Stewart, the City’s deputy chief administrative officer, as Jacksonville’s Stimulus Czar Monday at a press conference to explain what funding will be available to Jacksonville from the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (also known as the stimulus bill). Stewart will be responsible for coordinating the efforts of the agencies and organizations that will be applying for the federal funding.

From Jacksonville Daily Record, March 18, 2009.

Does anyone else think that a business has as many Czars and Chiefs as we have down at City Hall? Do we need a Stimulus Czar? Does that get you free tickets to the Jaguar games? Is this just another laughable position in the Peyton Administration? What qualifications are needed for this new position, did anyone else apply?
And, that $115 will save Jacksonville from financial ruin. - Mayor John Peyton

"This is a game-changer. This is what I mean when I say taking Jacksonville to the next level."
-Mayor Alvin Brown on new video boards at Everbank Field

Interestingly... the communists overthrew the czars (tsars).
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."
