Jobless rate soars to 8.1% in U.S., 8.6% in Florida

In Florida, which reports a month behind the national figures, the jobless rate climbed to 8.6 percent in January, up a full point from the revised 7.6 percent in December.

There are now about 800,000 people out of work in Florida, and unemployment is at its highest level in almost 17 years.

It could have been worse, Michigan had the highest State Unemployment at 14.7% in November 2009. Florida Lost 16,700 jobs between Oct/Nov 2009. Worst of all states, even Michigan.
