Is New Years Ever the final night for The Pearl?

File this under totally speculative gossip.

But apparently a former neighbor of Christy Clark's (Pearl Owner) Art Bar in Riverside spoke with her over the past few days and she informed him that the Pearl would not reopen after the New Years.

This person naturally told a patron who immediately texted the information on to Gossip Central.

This would be a natural shame.  The Pearl is one of the most unique places to ever open in the city.

Christy is a hardworking positive person who has contributed SOO MUCH to the community for the past ten years and deserves success rather than to be hounded out of business by the community she has worked so hard for (Jacksonville)

This is the last nightspot on Main Street.  Those lights going out would do tremendous harm to the safety and potential of the district.

Thousands of people who come to Springfield over the course of a month would go elsewhere, taking with them the daily references and discussions that keep the neighborhood fresh in the tens of thousands of people's minds with whom they interact.

This sucks if true.

Ive called the club, and the cell phone a few minutes ago, but havent heard back yet.

Anyone?

I really hope that this isn't true...it would indeed, be lousy!

If this is true it is a real FUBAR and we should have been able to do more!

This is totally NOT TRUE!!!! I talked with Peggy Sue last night and she asked me to post on this thread that it is just a rumor. They have no intention of closing the Pearl. They know who is calling the fire marshall on them and they are working with the fire marshall to stop the harrassment from this person. It was not harrassment from the city, but simply the city doing it's job...
Yankees suck!! Yankees suck!! Yankees suck!!

That's debatable.

Because after the 473rd time they go and shut the place down and then ultimately don't find any major violations, based solely on these phone calls from this same person, you'd think the City would say "gee...this weirdo has some axe to grind, and we're not going to get involved in this any longer"...

The fact that they haven't yet come to that conclusion, at least in my opinion, shows both negligence and a willingness to be used as a tool for harassment.

Steve

This is assuming that the city administration doesn't have an axe to grind.

Unless that callers name was "First Baptist Church of Jacksonville"  :-\

In which case you have actual malice, which is even better for the Pearl. I still think the owner needs to get herself a lawyer. As soon as the City realizes they're paying her to harass her, it will be a different ballgame.

This whole thing is ridiculous. No business owner should be treated this way, especially one who is playing a large part in bringing people to a blighted/recovering neighborhood.

Yes, the Pearl probably kicked out Deacon Stephen Edmonds when he tried to pick up their underage busboy. Bahaha.

Worst Baptist has sooooooooooooooo little room in their fragile glass house to start throwing rocks at others, as we will all surely be reminded of again shortly whenever the next scandal breaks, whatever that may be.

I hope they aren't the root of this issue.

Of course I was half way kidding... half way because I've seen a few places harassed and ultimately shut down because  of TFBC.

About a year ago I played in a band and we rehearsed above Thee Imperial when it was on Forsyth. They were given the same treatment by the fire marshall and subject to raids regularly. I remember Mikey who was an owner telling us they were raided the night before by police and the fire dept. because of an anonymous tip of underage drinking.

The authorities shut the place down and arrested Mike for serving alcohol (to be patrons 21 & up) at an "all ages" show. This is a bs charge of course and easy to beat... if you have an attorney and the money to pay said attorney... which is difficult for any struggling small business owner and thus an easy way to have these clubs surrender on their own with legal bills piling up.

The worst part to me is that 98% of their shows were "Straight Edge" bands and no one was drinking now matter how old they were. I use to crack up to see all these kids packed into a small club with no one drinking and no cigarette smoke in the air. They made a lifestyle choice against those things and were banded together by the music. A lot of the same morals the church preaches just minus the tattoos and general outer appearance.

Ya, but you know how those mega-churches work. It's not "the same" values, unless you're getting the collection plate passed around. If the same concerts were happening but Worst Baptist were getting a cut and making some money off the deal, well then you wouldn't hear a peep from them.

Hopefully one day people will realize what's up. The bible-thumping, we're guna tell everyone else how to live, get everybody riled-up all the time, type of religion is just the new big-business. Get people pissed off and scared enough about things that don't even effect them, but that they also don't fully understand, and their wallets open up to fight the perceived problem.

This game is as old as time. Lol.

I talked to Christy on Wednesday.  We are going to have an informal Springfield event Friday Night to support The Pearl.  She is going to be there to meet everyone.  If you would like to attend and want to get a free drink send me a message.
