New Traffic Configuration from I-95 Southbound to I-10 Westbound

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced a significant traffic shift scheduled to occur this weekend (December 20) for I-95 southbound vehicles at the I-10/I-95 merger.

All traffic on I-95 southbound going to I-10 westbound will make a shift to get off at exit number 352D just north of the Myrtle Avenue overpass.

A new exit ramp will open to Stockton Street for traffic moving on I-95 southbound.  Traffic on I-95 southbound exiting to Stockton Street next to I-10 westbound will get off of I-95 at exit 352D and proceed to exit 351C. Currently, there is no direct access to Stockton Street for I-95 southbound vehicles.

At the same time, the temporary ramp taking traffic from I-95 southbound to Forest Street and the downtown will close in order to start building a permanent exit ramp at that location. That movement will remain closed until the permanent ramp from I-95 southbound to Forest Street opens in early 2011. I-95 southbound traffic normally using Forest Street to reach the downtown would exit on Stockton Street and use Edison Avenue to reach Myrtle Avenue, Park Street or Riverside Avenue.

The movement from Forest Street to I-95 northbound on the permanent ramp will remain unchanged.

These traffic switches should occur by Saturday but could change depending on weather and unforeseen conditions in the field.
The work is part of the Florida Department of Transportation's $152 million interchange reconstruction project at I-10/I-95. The work is currently about 73 percent finished and should open in late 2010 or early 2011. The project is adding more capacity at the I-10/I-95 merger and will reduce conflicting traffic movements through the corridor.

That sounds confusing, until you actually do it I'm sure. I'm confused on the future termination of the I-10 eastbound lanes, S. 95 will move into left lanes, N. 95 into the right. It can clearly be seen on the future signage already put up.

The flyover connecting I95 north to I10 west is insanely high.  The views are amazing!

Sounds like it'll be an identical exit setup to the southern I-295/9A/I-95 interchange.  Heading southbound on 295 approaching 95, the northbound exit is approached first to accommodate the flyover, while the southbound exit ramp actually goes beneath the northbound flyover.

I can't wait for that I-95/I-10 interchange to be finished.  It doesn't affect me directly, but it'll be an overall help to alleviating rush-hour congestion.

Is it me, or is there no added capacity from I-95N, whether continuing on I-95N or going to I-10W?  It's still just two and two lanes...
