Tommorrow night from either bank of the river... Boats decorated with Xmas lights parading back and forth for a couple hours finishing with a pretty good fireworks display!!  I try and make it every year... I have always enjoyed it...

Saturday Night November 29.
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Artificial tree this year with LED lights I hear...

Morning news said they had 75 boats signed up!!

An artificial tree with LED lights???

That doesn't sound right.

How does it look?

Saw it tonight.

Broke my heart.

Nothing like taking the 22 year tradition of bringing in a beautiful, real tree and replacing it with this garish toy.

The lights dance.

They dance.

Nothing says "going green" like bringing in this Chinese-made steel monstrosity.

Some people liked it.

I tend to dislike artificial trees in general, so I might not be the most partial on the subject  :D

Watching the Rockefeller Center tree lighting on TV tonight though, I just don't think it would be the same with a fake, LED tree.

On a similar note, I think city planners should take note of the New York event, as well as other similar events around the country. For most of the events, as it should be, the lighting of the tree is the main event, per se. The tree is lit, everyone ooohs and ahhhs, and you leave filled with warm feelings of sentiment and holiday spirit.

Only in Jacksonville do they light the tree, and then immediately blow $75,000 worth of explosives up off some barge, taking all focus of the actual, you know, tree.

Not a big fan of artificial either... but...They are touting the energy savings with the LED lights.  They were claiming this system will use 1/3 the energy of the old lighting system.
