...it could happen this New Year's. If the Pittsburgh Panthers win next week they just might get a Gator Bowl bid.

That would be a horrible pick for the Gator Bowl. The Panthers don't travel well and if you've ever seen them on ESPN play at home at Heinz Field (Capacity 65,000 yes they play in the same stadium as the Steelers) you'll notice that they can bearly fill it.

".... the Panthers have drawn more than 50,000 to Heinz Field only once since, in the 2006 edition of the Backyard Brawl between Pitt and West Virginia."      :-\

With this bad economy we need two teams that travel well, and bring in lots of dollars to our local economy.

The Gator Bowl can select a Big 12 team instead of Big East. Latest has the GBA taking Nebraska from the Big 12 and matching them up with an ACC school, possibly Ga Tech. The Cornhuskers will travel to Florida in droves.

lol, i agree with both you guys. I just thought it was funny to point out that it could happen...

btw, I think the gator bowl gets fourth pick from Big 12, second pick from the Big East, or Notre Dame, to face the selected ACC team. Nebraska definitely isn't the 4th best team from the Big 12, but I'm sure their traveling fan base makes them more attractive to bowls than Missouri or Ok St.
