Just drove by corner of Stockton and Rosselle and there seems to be significant work being done on the group of church buildings there. Anyone know what is going on?

Those are owned by JFRD, as is the brick tower across the street. The property is undergoing a renovation to become a JFRD recreational center. Should be a great transformation for that corner.

While the end goal - a firefighter rec center - may be correct, the Jacksonville Association of firefighters owns the church on the west side of Stockton, and the International Association of firefighters owns the fire tower property on the east side.

What's the difference between the International and Jacksonville associations?  Does the International have a presence here that is truly national?  I know the tower is used for training.  Do non-Jax departments come here to also train on it?

North Stockton is on a roll.  Emerald Trail, new McCoys Creek bridge, new WW Gay HQ's, this project...

Drummond Press buildings at the corner of Stockton and Dennis are for sale. Surely, a new buyer is likely to upgrade that corner too.

JFRD doesn't use the Stockton Street tower any more. They have a large campus just north of FSCJ South, and east of Sandalwood HS. Search "JFRD Training" in your favorite map app.

Training Division
The campus is designed to replicate real-world conditions. Facilities include a burn building, a multi-story tower for high-rise rescue training, a two-story liquid propane tank, fire pits, and a fossil fuel pit. Most of these structures can be set on fire for live training. Field exercises in shipboard and aircraft firefighting are also offered.

The Training Division operates in partnership with Florida State College at Jacksonville. Together, they prepare career firefighters and students seeking state certifications. Most recently, JFRD partnered with CSX to build a state-of-the-art hazardous materials training site.
