It looks like a lot less than what was needed for the First Baptist Convention Building or the 11th & Market loft rehab in Springfield. Much of the most recent deterioration (partial roof collapse) has been more of a demolition by neglect type of thing. Btw, this agenda item was deferred today.

Its 100% salvageable... just not through the entirely-too-intense use that was proposed by the current owner.

This sat much longer and was in much worse shape

This item was deferred to September at today's HPC meeting.

COJ Historic Preservation staff found that the property met 4 of the 7 criteria points for landmarking, enough to move forward. However, the Historic Preservation Commission didn't take their recommendation, and the vote to landmark failed.

Unfortunate.

Not surprised. Even if staff did take their recommendation, council would have shot it down. If council shot down their Ford plant recommendation, a little building like this one would have never made it. So we'll be looking at another empty lot for years to come because the proposed project is DOA.
