Charles, yes, I do. Given many Spangrams are multiple or long words, I try to look for connecting or long words.  Sometimes they just hit me right away.  If that fails, I imagine that I picked the smaller words I find to see what falls between them and then seeing if that leads to the Spangram by process of elimination.  Sometimes, though, I just throw up my hands and jump right in on words as I find them resulting in the Spangram falling from pick #1.  There was one in the last week or so where more than one solution "spanned" the puzzle and the one I went with first turned out to not be the Spangram.  That's just luck at that point.

I wasn't always so focused on this until I saw the badges (I already have the 100 First Badge) for getting Spangram's first.  So, I am playing some catch up to raise my %.  I am close to batting 33% but, as you noticed, doing a bit better than that lately with my current strategy.  In a couple of days, I will hit 100% solve, with no hints, of 350 games earning the next badge I am seeing. 

I note you do very well with Connections where I struggle with some of the more way out culture and questionable connections they concoct. 

Sometimes it's about luck but, more so, I guess we each have games we favor and others less so  . I will say experience playing these games does help a bit to improve one's solve rate, especially with Connections and Pips.  Even with Wordle where often I can say "I have seen this word before" in either Wordle, Quordle (I play 2 levels there but only post the easier one here) and Dordle.  There are only so many 5 letter words  .

FYI, I also play the NYT's daily Spelling Bee.  The free version doesn't keep stats like these other games so not much to post about.

Overall, its just fun to take on these various challenges to take one's mind off the daily grind.

Thanks for the insight, I may try that technique. I'd already done today's before I read your reply.

I remember that Strands where there were two possible 'spangrams' - I think I tried the wrong one first.

Remember back in ye olden days, on the standardized tests, where we bubbled in the circles with a quill pen? I always did well on the "analogies" sections (Hot is to Cold as High is to: Goodbye, Sober, Low, Elephant) - this may help with Connections. On the other hand, I did terribly on the "spatial recognition" section, where they gave a 2-D set of lines, and you had to pick from a group of 3-D shapes those random (to me) lines could be folded into. This might be connected to my Pips woes. That, and reading < > signs backwards some mornings.
