Brumos Collection Car Museum opens in Jax

The venue was modeled after the Ford assembly plant - man, I wish it could have landed there.  Regardless, looks really well done.  Brumos is something special in Jax.

Looks pretty cool. My only comment is this is exactly the type of local cultural destination that downtown needs more of and that COJ would never pony up the cash to pay for. How did this pop up in this random location so quietly?

Agreed! I had no idea.  I was checking on dates for the 25th Concours @ Amelia and it showed up - yet another North Florida gem.  I just got back from 16 Days in Europe and was able to hit the Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and Motorworld museums in Stuttgart; the Brumos exhibition and presentation looks world class - albeit on a smaller scale.

Side nugget: Not sure if anyone's seen Ford vs. Ferrari yet, but there's mention of Brumos Jacksonville early on in the movie.

This looks great, but it blows my mind that they built a replica of an existing vacant jacksonville building less than 15 miles away.  That's pretty telling, in my opinion.

Somewhat off topic, but in line with this comment (I think).  POW/MIA Museum being built and located at . . . Cecil Commerce Center.  That is a long way and out of the way.  I'm sure there are reasons that the non-profit chose to locate it there, but man, I wish there was an effort on the city's part to get it downtown or near downtown.  If there was an effort, I didn't hear about it.

I agree.  I was surprised to see it go out there.  I can see the tie in of it being on an old base, but imagine if these things were clustered downtown.

For some strange reason, a part of me believes that if these things were proposed in Charlotte, the backers would have been convinced or prodded a bit more to locate them in Uptown. Get both of these within short walking distance of the floating boat (USS Orleck) and they all benefit from the cross traffic and additional exposure. Those three things alone, in the right spot, are enough to anchor a piece of downtown. Alone, miles away from everything else, they'll need to find a strong way to survive long term on their own merits (although the Brumos thing is at least near the beach, which will help it). Overall, we get a big fat "F" on understanding and embracing the significance of clustering.
