In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Why anyone would pay someone to throw an axe at a wall is beyond me.

Stumbled across an axe-throwing venue in Oregon a couple years back.  I thought alcohol and flying axes was an odd combination, but then, it was rural-ish Oregon.  Maybe they were lumberjacks (so... it's okay.)

And ESPN (or one of their stations) broadcast several hours worth of this "competition" over the weekend.  I believe it was  an axe throwing professional league.

these places already exist. I think it's a wacky concept, but some people get a kick out of it. I don't think it's a concern as some of you are making it out to be

You can drink at a golf course or driving range, and a 4-iron could definitely make for a good weapon, but you don't see people beating eachother to death with golf clubs at driving ranges very often now, do you?

What happened to just putting a quality dart board somewhere in the back corner of the bar?  Beer and darts.

nothing happened to this, dart boards are still a staple. Strings Brewery in Springfield has a couple, just down the street from here

You find very few problems at golf courses in general.  I have been playing golf for a very long time and have never even seen two people even shove each other.  I agree, a 4 iron could definitely make a good weapon, but Lizzie Borden preferred the axe.

The opening of Bad Axe Throwing in Springfield is delayed indefinitely due to the pandemic.

QuoteWith more than 40 locations across the world closed indefinitely due to the coronavirus, Bad Axe Throwing is still aiming to open up their new Springfield location – but the project has essentially been put on hold indefinitely.

The entertainment venue will be located at 1719 N. Main St. but it's unclear when Bad Axe will eventually open in Springfield.

Bad Axe CEO Mario Zelaya said the Ontario-based company has put all upcoming expansions – including Jacksonville – on hold, citing a lack of capital due to unforeseen costs related to Covid-19. Initially slated to open in May, Zelaya said the company is in a good spot moving forward regarding their Jacksonville location because their landlord had not yet begun the buildout of the new facility.

"The industry as a whole – recreation as a whole – is facing this almost extinction level event where we're not an essential service," Zelaya said. "During the shutdowns, we've issued hundreds of thousands of dollars in refunds. We've had infrastructure costs – basic utilities – and when you multiply that across 40 locations, the costs are just astronomical."

Zelaya said almost every location – the majority of which are in the U.S., although there are a few in Canada and one in the U.K. – were closed due to Covid-19. As of Tuesday, Bad Axe's only locations open for bookings were Atlanta, Georgia and Oklahoma City. In response to the situation, Zelaya said he had to lay off or furlough more than 300 employees across the company.

"Unfortunately, we had to go of everyone," Zelaya said. "We couldn't afford to pay time off – otherwise, we just wouldn't be in existence."

The company has retained a small skeleton crew of employees to maintain properties throughout the closure.

Looking into the future, Zelaya couldn't give any specific date or range of dates for when Springfield might finally get its own ax-throwing facility, but he did specify that the company is looking forward to coming to the Jacksonville area.

"We still want to be there," Zelaya said. "Just like with other things, the environment is so ugly now that it's very difficult to do so. So I think the key is just making it over this first hurdle and to overcome the next obstacles that come our way."

Bummer, it doesn't sound good but it makes sense.

Good luck to them, but I personally prefer to patronize more "reputable" establishments like Suture's and CivilWarDoctor Fantasy Camp!
