Enthusiasm gap? Small Jacksonville crowd for Mike Pence and Ron DeSantis

A.G. GANCARSKI

On Thursday afternoon, U.S. Vice President Mike Pence headlined a Jacksonville rally for Ron DeSantis.

In what clearly was the Republican attempt to counter the appearance of former veep Joe Biden for the Democrats earlier this week, Pence's arrival was another signal of how nationalized the race between DeSantis and Democrat Andrew Gillum is.
However, Duval Republicans seem to have been otherwise occupied, just a day after a brutal, high-profile debate between the candidates.

In terms of draw, attendance was not as strong as organizers might have hoped, with a couple hundred people on hand being a smaller draw than the Democratic "Winning Ticket" rally.

People waited forever to See Biden, Nelson and Gillum at UNF.   This had to be embarrassing for the GOP. I am frankly surprised.

Trump had a slow Jax rally or two, and he still won the county and state. If they're worried, I can't imagine it's over this.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

I was just surprised they couldn't rally in Jax. I think there is an enthusiasm gap but I don't know this is representative.

^Shorter time frame and far less advertising. Plus any candidate, especially a Dem, will draw a crowd on a college campus.

As a registered 'No Party Affiliation" voter and former Democrat (who leans red because current Republicans are basically old school blue dog Democrats with a pro gun caveat, and the Dems went full San Francisco socialist) I noticed an overwhelming reach out from the Democrats; Gillum, Nelson, VIA text knocking on doors (that I don't answer) youtube ads, facebook, twitter etc etc etc. It's like a full blown barrage of unending Democrat advertising.

Concerning the Republicans, I have no one really reaching out. Me being a NPA, you think there would be sort some of reachout, but none. I think that is a big mistake of behalf of the Republicans. Not all potential Republican voter are rural white people. Just like many within the Cuban community lean conservative (not all Democrat like many think, esp with many know knowing the detriments of communism, with socialism being Communism-lite).

That being said, I think that the majority of people have already made up their minds, and who they are gonna vote for. Either IMO keep the momentum with jobs prosperity etc, or go full San Fran. I know that I'm biased and really don't want to be, but it's so hard not to be one political party is so extreme in their beliefs. It's basically jobs vs mobs like Trump said.

Concerning the crowd size of the Pence, DeSantis, Conway visit, how many people are supposed to fit into the Prime Osborn Convention Center? It's not really known for being a big cavernous 10K seat stadium or something. Something is telling me that this whole charade of a report is an attempt to demoralize Republicans (ie lying about Trump crowd sizes, muh Hillary will win presidency etc). Is there any coincidence that when you type in "Mike Pence rally in Jax"on Google and the FL Politics small crowd size" article comes up first? So yeah, I smell a rat.

Have you ever been to San Francisco? Asking for a friend.

I wouldn't have thought the size of the venue would matter unless it was sold out. If it was filled to capacity, then you could argue that the size was limited and that accounts for the numbers. I've no idea if it was full to capacity or not, but I suspect Tacachale's reasoning is more sound.

This trash is just as bad as the racist robo call going around. It's not going to influence voters pulling for either candidate. People are pretty much going to vote for the person and policies that they personally align themselves with.

I hope I live to the day when elections such as we have going on now are a thing of the past.  Politicians running ads of only their goals, methods, and promises if elected.  No PAC money.  No ads ran by Pacs.  Civility and maturity from all candidates.  Do you think this can happen?  Nah, me neither.

Yes it is!

I don't see why anyone would (or should) be thick enough to assume that the opinions one low-level "campaign staffer" are somehow reflective of the candidate.

I don't really have an opinion on Gillum, either way. But if that's the best the opposition can muster, it's pretty pathetic.
