QuoteA new partnership is in the works to bring locally produced art to Hemming Park. Friends of Hemming Park events coordinator Christina Parrish-Stone said that the organization has committed to a $50,000 five-year partnership with the University of North Florida's sculpture program. The first year of the program is funded.

The partnership entails donating money to UNF students to create prototypes for sculptures to be installed in Hemming Park. The models will all be exhibited at the nearby Museum of Contemporary Art, and residents will be able to stop by and vote for their favorite model. Students whose work is chosen will loan the sculpture to Hemming Park for a year and can try to sell it during that time. If they do, Friends of Hemming Park will not take any commission...

The sculptures will be created under one of two broad themes: flora and fauna or Jacksonville history. Parrish-Stone said the sculptures will be displayed around the fountain across from the Main Library and MOCA and will be accented with lighting and landscaping.

Full article also mentions a few new beautification projects coming to Hemming in the coming year, including replacing the fenced off storage area with a garden cottage-style building to store equipment, and building a permanent pavilion for live music versus the pop-up tent that's currently there.
