Duluth Trading Company could come to the River City Marketplace. That would be awesome if it happens!

QuoteThe Belleville, Wisconsin-based casual wear and accessories brand Duluth Trading Co. intends to enter the Jacksonville market, according to documents submitted to the St. Johns River Water Management District.

Site plans show the Duluth Trading Post would be located at River City Marketplace, a shopping center near Jacksonville International Airport off of Interstate 95 and Airport Center Drive. A 14,560-square-foot building for the store would be built adjacent to Regal Cinemas.

In an emailed statement, the company said it could not confirm the new location.

"Our policy is not to disclose the timing of new store openings until the leasing, permitting and development process has been thoroughly vetted," said Katie Kulczyk, a representative for the company. "Our site selection for new stores is largely driven by data that demonstrates Duluth customer demand, and a site that will reflect the Duluth brand promise to our retail customers including a unique shopping experience, ease of access and ample parking."

If Duluth Trading Co. does come to Jacksonville, it would be the first brick and mortar location in Florida, based on the list of planned and opened stores on its website. The company has rapidly expanded its footprint over the past few years. At the beginning of June, it opened its 38th store. It's goal is to add 15 brick and mortar locations by the end of Q1 2018.

River City Marketplace, built in 2005, had about 230,593 people living in a 10-mile radius in 2017, according to RAMCO Properties, which owns the shopping center.

Representatives from RAMCO did not immediately respond to inquiries Monday.

I'm only familiar with it online, but it's got a lot of pretty cool stuff.

I have to make a correction/edit. It looks like the DTC will be a brand new building west of the theater and NOT the currently existing and much larger old Gander Mtn building. Kinda disappointing that the old Gander Mtn will still be vacant, oh well.

QuoteDuluth Trading Co., the casual and workwear clothing company whose quirky animated ads tout its Buck Naked underwear and Fire Hose pants, is planning its first Florida store at River City Marketplace.

Belleville, Wisconsin-based Duluth Holdings Inc. would occupy a new 14,560-square-foot building at 13000 City Station Drive. The property is along Interstate 95 on the west side of the Regal River City Marketplace Stadium 14 movie theater.

An application for modification of the St. Johns River Water Management District Environmental Resource Permit for River City Marketplace indicates the Duluth Trading Co. building on a .86-acre parcel with 66 parking spaces.

The property is owned by Ramco Jacksonville LLC and the applicant is Ramco-Gershenson Inc., a real estate property manager. The company is based in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Ramco-Gershenson Inc. is a subsidiary of Ramco-Gershenson Properties LP.

According to duluthtrading.com, the nearest Duluth Trading Co. store is in Louisville, Kentucky, about 600 miles from Jacksonville. Most of the chain's stores are in the Northeast and Midwest. The company opened its 38th store on June 7 in Columbus, Ohio.

The company was started in 1989 by two brothers working in construction in Duluth. According to the Wisconsin State Journal, in 2000, Duluth Trading Co. was acquired by Gempler's outdoor supplies, which then was owned by Steve Schlecht. Schlecht sold Gempler's in 2003 to concentrate on developing the Duluth Trading business. In 2015, the company went public and Stephanie Pugliese was promoted to CEO and Schlecht became the company's executive chairman.

Duluth Trading Co. describes itself as a lifestyle brand for the "modern, self-reliant American." It offers "high quality, solution-based casual wear, workwear and accessories for men and women who lead a hands-on lifestyle and who value a job well-done."

They have high quality merchandise, but it's not cheap. I wonder how many in town will pay $20 for a pair of socks or underwear.
