He dropped the ball for a lot of his term, but he also had to endure a second term from 2007-2011 which was the worst recession since the 1930's. Not much he could do during that time except keep things afloat.

Because he stuck his thumb in his rear end when every bank on earth was giving free money. The fact that he couldn't ride the wave in ha second term was his own fault.
