Donald Trump has gone and done it this time and the spin machine is not working to quiet the outrage as this story broke about an hour ago.  Not only did Trump allow a Russian State photographer and their media into his recent meeting while banning American press he did one of the most foolish and outrageous thing that anyone would or could ever imagine.  He apparently leaked highly sensitive classified information to the Russian envoy visiting the oval office, one of those people a known Russian Spy. Had he been holding any other office in our government he would have already been fired for sharing information originally given under the pretext that it would not be shared outside of U.S. intelligence communities.

Trump Revealed Highly Classified Information To Russians During White House Visit

President Trump revealed highly classified information to Russian officials during a meeting last week at the White House, two US officials confirmed to BuzzFeed News.

The meeting included Russia's ambassador, Sergei Kislyak, and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The disclosures were first reported by the Washington Post, which cited current and former US officials who said the information was considered so sensitive that some details had been withheld from American allies and was restricted within the US government.

Two US officials who were briefed on Trump's disclosures last week confirmed to BuzzFeed News the veracity of the Washington Post report, with one noting that "it's far worse than what has already been reported.

WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump revealed highly classified information to the Russian foreign minister and ambassador in a White House meeting last week, according to current and former U.S. officials, who said that Trump's disclosures jeopardized a critical source of intelligence on the Islamic State.

The information Trump relayed had been provided by a U.S. partner through an intelligence-sharing arrangement considered so sensitive that details have been withheld from allies and tightly restricted even within the U.S. government, officials

The partner had not given the United States permission to share the material with Russia, and officials said that Trump's decision to do so risks cooperation from an ally that has access to the inner workings of the Islamic State. After Trump's meeting, senior White House officials took steps to contain the damage, placing calls to the CIA and National Security Agency.

"This is code-word information," said a U.S. official familiar with the matter, using terminology that refers to one of the highest classification levels used by American spy agencies. Trump "revealed more information to the Russian ambassador than we have shared with our own allies."

The revelation comes as Trump faces rising legal and political pressure on multiple Russia-related fronts. Last week, he fired FBI Director James Comey in the midst of a bureau investigation into links between the Trump campaign and Moscow. Trump's subsequent admission that his decision was driven by "this Russia thing" was seen by critics as attempted obstruction of justice.

Sadly, Republicans are so partisan that nothing will make them choose country over party. They sure love their flag pins though. I'd call them "deplorable" but that honesty hits a little to close to home for the cowards.  ::)

WASHINGTON — American democracy is "under assault" on separate fronts from President Donald Trump and Russia, the former U.S. intelligence chief warned Sunday, expressing dismay over the abrupt firing of FBI director James Comey amid a probe into Moscow's meddling in U.S. elections and possible ties with the Trump campaign.

As Trump works to fast-track Comey's successor, lawmakers from both parties urged him to steer clear of any politicians for the job and say he must "clean up the mess that he mostly created."

"I think, in many ways, our institutions are under assault, both externally — and that's the big news here, is the Russian interference in our election system," said James Clapper, the former director of national intelligence. "I think as well our institutions are under assault internally."

When he was asked, "Internally, from the president?" Clapper said, "Exactly."

Clapper spoke following Trump's sudden firing of Comey last week, which drew sharp criticism because it came amid the FBI's investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election. Clapper said America's founding fathers had created three co-equal branches of government with checks and balances, but with Trump as president, that was now "eroding."

This insightful piece will give readers some good insight into today's bombshell and the spin trying to counteract it.  Worth the read if you want to understand what is going on.

This is perhaps the gravest allegation of presidential misconduct in the scandal-ridden four months of the Trump administration. This story is likely to be immensely consequential. Below are some initial thoughts based on the facts available about what this story is, what it isn't, and what we do and do not yet know.   quote lawfare

Cheshire Cat, I think you need a better outlet for political discourse and reporting than a local blog.

Have you thought of hosting a slot on public access to discuss daily political issues, better yet a podcast or YouTube channel?

This to be honest. Taking over for SD doing the whole replying to yourself in countless political threads in a community forum is weak. Spam your Facebook friends instead.

BTW, Buzzfeed, WaPo, "sources say" lol. You're literally posting garbage. https://i.redd.it/48fveatozqxy.jpg

A google image search that's hosted on reddit? Yeah, the horror. Reddit's actually quite left leaning anyway, but lemme know your preferred host.

That all you got??

It's not about left vs right. It's about impugning someone's sources - and then responding with a link to a site that is even less reputable.

Why not just skip the ad hominem attacks and deal with the subject at hand? It's seems like all of these threads just turn into people attacking the sources of the information and not the information.
