Hey Guys, Just an opinion on something. I know there is a lot of discussion around town regarding the Cruise Ship Terminal at Mayport.  I have a great idea on how this could benefit a lot of local places and venues from Mayport to downtown Jax. First for the people in Mayport thet are opposed to the project. Why not cut a deal with the cruise lines to purchase their seafood from the local fisherman. This could become a tremendous boon to the local industry and could alleviate some of their fears. Secondly, where are a lot of the attractions in town? On the river. The city could coordinate with the ship lines to have day trips via water taxis or boats. You could have stops at Kingsley Plantation, The Timuquan Preserve, Fort Caroline, The Jacksonville Zoo, The Landing, MOSH, The Cummer Museum, and the proposed Naval Ship Museum near the Acosta Bridge. In my opinion this is a simple cost effective idea that could have a great impact on our entire tourism industry.

I think that the cruise ship terminal is a wonderful idea for the Mayport area and, honestly, i think that the majority of people that live in the specific areas that would be affected by the addition are transient (I dont mean homeless, I just mean families that are in between permanent residences [read into this] and will eventually be stationary). This niche will bring the City TONS of money and will have a fairly minimal effect on the people who are being so outspoken about the proposal.
This is a great opportunity for our City and we need to take advantage of the resources that we have.

As far as the buying from the local fishermen and fisheries, its a great idea and, yes, that is an option but I dont think that that this would satiate the needs of the industry, power to the people and local entrepreneurs
