Gil Dezer is planning to redevelop the Intracoastal Mall in North Miami Beach into a "very special new town" for millennials.

Dezer announced the project at an event for brokers held at Residences of Armani/Casa sales center in Sunny Isles Beach.

2,000 units are planned in several towers, including smaller loft spaces. There will also be a WeWork area.

Residents will have access to amenities including fiber optic internet, "the largest metropolitan wine cave in the world," virtual reality rooms, and top of the line fitness facilities.

Easy transportation to nearby areas popular with millennials is also a focus. The plans include a high speed "vaporetto" boat that would offer quick connections to South Beach and Wynwood via the Intracoastal Waterway. Access to Uber will also be a priority.

If they are planning "smaller loft spaces" how will this work?  Their Mom will need a place to sleep as well....

What is meant by term "loft" now? It used to have a particular meaning - you'd rent a large space in a converted building and then section it up into rooms or areas (or not, if you didn't feel like it).

I've seen the John Gorrie apartments referred to as "lofts" and someone I know refers to her apartment in that building across from Starbucks (the one with the bagel place) as a "loft".

Is it just a pretentious way to say apartment?

Yep, if there's no ceiling and only the bathrooms have doors... that was the benchmark at the metropolitan lofts anyway.
