Is it just me but does anyone else think that the offerings on the radio in JAX suck? my take of the fm dial,
plenty of "AOR" 30+ year old music that was ok then and is pretty tired now
a top 40 station that appears to have only 10 recordings at a time
an urban (hip hop/rap) station
a few country stations
plenty of christian stations
the local PBS station runs all of the over produced slanted offerings but little else.
No Jazz, no classical, a half assed progressive station.
fortunately I have sirius in my car, xm in the house but when I am in my wife's car listening to the local radio it is nothing short of torture.
can anyone offer any insights?

I agree... the jacksonville radio scene is the pits... especially in the progressive area.
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Is the wife not allowed to have Sirius or XM?  ;D
I havent even tried to listen to local radio in over a year. Between XM, CDs and MP3s I can do without..  I cant wait until internet radio is available in the car.

It wasn't available when she got the car and she has no interest in it, the ipods are great and I have tons of stuff on mine but I still would like to hear stuff I don't have, then there is weather, news and stuff that satellite, ipods, mp3s just don't have.
Too bad JAX can't support a jazz, classical station and interesting rock/progressive station, I hate to sound like a music snob but what is on the air here is just noise pollution.

I've gotten to the point where I listen to sports talk radio or my own CDs.

I agree and generally just listen to cds

I'd be lost without a collection of New Age CD's and some classic 60's-70's Rock. I WOULD listen to a quality modern Jazz Station such as KLON in Long Beach, CA.. I would NOT listen to the so-called smooth Jazz which is mostly a buzz word for soft rock and bad vocals. A REAL CLASSIC rock station without the 80-90's in it would be nice - Vangelis, B-Tribe, 2002, Ranga, Medwin Goodall, Peter kater, Bruce BecVar, David Arkenstone, Jon Anderson, I'd love to hear all of you! On a more local note, Freebird Anyone?
