Computer Intrusions

For those of you who say the real issue in the hacked DNC emails was the tech-savviness of a 68-year-old man:

Democrats didn't stand a chance against Russia's elite hackers. They're too good.

"They are so capable," FireEye's Jonathan Wrolstad said of the Russian military unit. "In some ways, it may seem futile because they are so skilled. If you block them one way, they are going to look for the next way and the next way until they achieve their goal."

lol... all is lost and nothing is secure.  I bet you lock your door and close your windows when not at home finehoe... but really what is the point... if anyone really wants to get in they can right?  I bet your bank locks the vault, sets the alarm and locks the doors at night... but really why bother?  If anyone really wants to rob the bank they can...

The list goes on and it is a silly argument.  Stop it.
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

No, this is the silly argument:

Lol... this is about cybersecurity or lack thereof... you feel better deflecting to "trumpism" whatever that is... but if Hilz, Podesta, and Weiner would have adhered to even the most basic cybersecurity rules we would not be talking about this... but hey... Trump... lol

I understand ... You... consider it silly... but it is 100% correct if the data provided by cia, fbi, DHS, et al is correct... and YOU as I believe it is.  Basic cybersecurity, cyber hygiene, cyber training would have thwarted this episode.

FTFY.

Do you believe the report or not?  I thought you guys did... who knew?

I quote... "At least one targeted individual activated links to malware..."

And... "the spearphishing email tricked recipients into changing their passwords through a fake webmail..."

Pretty clear... if you believe the reports...

Based on a couple assumptions:  (1) Cyber spying is/has happens regularly between both countries & (2) Both sides know more than they're letting out.

I would say that BT's argument has tons of merit.  It's bad enough that it happened, but that impact wouldn't have been nearly as bad if it took Russia's finest cyber-cryptologists to crack into a secure server and steal material.  But as is the case, they get to laugh at us and say that we were hacked with a simple phishing campaign that any 16 year old with a basic knowledge of html could have done.

I don't disagree. It might've happened anyway, but if the hackers had been able to defeat robust security measures, then we'd at least be able to say we took the threat seriously and tried.

The DNC and Podesta are PRIVATE entities - just like Sony (who was hacked by the N Koreas years ago) ... The U.S. wasn't hacked at all.

Russia's (alleged) involvement doesn't bother me and if anything, they should win a Pulitzer for investigative journalism. If the dems weren't riding dirty, those emails would have barely made news outside of 4chan.

Presumably, you're okay with the Chinese and Russians hacking US companies and stealing their IP.

And YOUR  assuming the Russians would've just given up if they hadn't managed to get the information the way they did.  Which is silly.

Well... I guess you just throw up your hands and squeal about how illegal it all is... lol... good luck with that strategy... But I assure you even the DNC is taking the appropriate steps to prevent this in the future... perhaps even Hillary, and Debbie WS, and even Huma... At least we can hope right?

You're still missing the point (deliberately, I'm sure).  You keep saying 'if only the DNC would've followed these simple procedures, then it wouldn't have happened and we wouldn't be talking about it.'  I'm saying that is patently ridiculous, because if the Russians hadn't gotten in through the phishing scheme, they would've kept on trying until they got in another way.  As the article I posted notes, they're pretty good at what they do.

I hear exactly what you are saying... thank goodness government regulators and most IT professionals do not feel the same way... banking, business, power grid, transportation would have collapsed into anarchy long ago... but no worries... its illegal and all...

Yes, I am OK with it - if you have stuff important enough where someone would want to steal it, you'd better do your best to protect it, which was not the case with the DNC.

Would you scream bloody murder over your neighbor's house being robbed if you found out they never locked their doors and kept the windows open every time they went out?

Before I switched careers, I was an IT consultant for about 15 years - hacking is ALWAYS going to be around. Kids, Crooks, Government Agents, OUR government agents, etc. Is just like anything else that's bad and can be done to you by people and you just need to do your best to indemnify yourself.

Btw, this part of Arlington is have a rash of break ins and vandalism as the result of - my neighbors across the street had their cars ripped of because they don't lock their doors.... My cars, no prob. ;)
