Davis Street School

I started school in about 1950 at Davis Street School. My grandmother was the librarian there, and I remember looking at all the books and magazines while we waited for her to finish her day. That experience left me with an implicit affinity for books that has resulted in my own home library. We left Jacksonville after I finished the sixth grade, and I have only been back once since then in the late 1980s. When I came back, Davis Street School with its distinctive chimney was still standing, but I can see from Google Maps that it has been torn down; only what we used to call "the new part" is still there, and it has become a church. I have foundational memories of both the school and my grandmother, and I have an abiding regret that I didn't take a picture of it on my only visit. I have searched the internet, but the only image of it I can find is from a distance facing northward where only the high chimney is visible. If anyone can help me locate a picture of Davis Street School, I would be so very grateful. If you have an image you can share, please send it to my email; collinsg@verizon.net.

I have a few images from the 1950s and 60s of this school. However, the pictures were taken of kids playing behind the building. They are on my desktop at home, so I'll try and post them here tonight.
