Jacksonville Goes To College Week!
by William Jackson

and Edward Waters College

"Education is the passport to the future, for
tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today."
Malcolm X

Duval County Public Schools and the City of Jacksonville
is proud to present "Jacksonville Goes To College Week!"

The opportunity for families to speak to college recruiters
about their institutions of higher learning, vocational
education and courses that lead to new directions in life.

The opportunities are endless for students today to plan
on careers that were not available just 5 to 10 years ago.
Careers that were only in the imaginations and dreams of
youth, teens and young adults are ready to be started with
the right type of educational foundation and access to technology.

Students of color and culture have doors open to them
if they are certified, certificated and degreed. Even
opportunities to embrace entrepreneurialism are available.
What better way to fan the fires of dreams and high
expectations to let your children talk to recruiters
now while they are in elementary school and middle school.

Parents are encouraged to stop by booths that help their
children with financial management, to help understand the
importance of planning for financial security now and not
waiting for the future that may or may not be what is
planned or expected. The understanding of how money works
can be the difference in having children living at home
after high school and college or having them to be
successful and prepared to live on their owns with little
or no assistance from family.

Lasting until October 15, there is a whole slate of
events dedicated toward post-secondary decisions.
The week caps off with the Jacksonville National College
Fair on Saturday, October 15 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the
Prime Osborn Convention Center.
