The city is in the midst of getting a mobility report from a consultant firm and Phase 1 of the report is about to be discussed today at the city council meeting. The report mentions the need for complete streets in the city.  The city was also looking for help on parking, since the garage downtown is under capacity (and not the cheapest I might add). I'm still holding out hope for water taxis  ::). It will be interesting to see what comes of the report and how St. Augustine will implement the recommendations.

QuoteThe report mentions as part of phase 2 the city evaluating "complete street design" for its "three mixed-use corridors: King Street, San Marco Avenue and Anastasia Boulevard." Those are also the city's entrance corridors.

In terms of revising the streetscape, the report says the Plaza could be returned "to its former grandeur and function as an iconic unifying civic space." Streetscape redesigns could improve mobility and could "enhance commerce through improved aesthetics and increased pedestrian activity for the area.

As for King Street from U.S. 1 to Cordova Street, the report calls the western part of the road "an uninspiring gateway into the Country's Oldest city" which lacks bicycle facilities.

But "The goal of the King Street Streetscape will be to provide an inspiring gateway into the City" that would improve commerce and looks and encourage bicycles, transit, pedestrian and other modes of getting around, according to the report.
