Springfield: The Northbank's National Register Historic District

Confederate Park (formerly Dignan Park).  The name change occurred in 1914, after the park was the epicenter of a Confederate Veterans Reunion, that attracted 48,000 former soldiers.  Today it is a part of a chain of long ignored parks waiting to be restored to their former glory.

It's pretty amazing how different (worse) 8th and Main looks today.

I wonder if the trolley tracks are still under the street? They may uncover them when they finally start construction on the Main St. improvement project.

I'm sure. They pulled the tracks out when they did the first four blocks, so it only makes sense they go all the way to 8th.

Springfield has all the bones to be one of the greatest neighborhoods in the south.

Perhaps one day we as a city can make this happen.

Though hoping it'll happen and making it happen are two different things.

Only Springsfield could ever get me to move out of Murray Hill.

Let's strategize on how we as a community can make Springfield happen without waiting for the powers that be at City Hall or Shad coming along to buy the Springfield revitalization for us?

It seems to be happening now, slowly. People. Money. Properties being rehabbed and restored. These new folks will want retail, entertainment, recreation. Businesses will follow. Of course, this could take years...

As Irv said, if you're paying attention, you see it "happening" right now.

There's 5 new businesses opening on Main Street, under renovation now (or very soon). More than a dozen significant residential projects underway, both new construction and renovation, including multi-family.

COJ policy is actually changing to help, not hinder, the work.

Good vibes all around.
