Did JIA miss out on this? Did they throw their hat in the ring.. not sure how this all works but it seems on the face of it a missed early opportunity.
And so it goes

JIA threw their hat in the ring. We simply lost out to stronger markets.

Ok thanks for the information on that one.. disappointing but at least JIA tried.
And so it goes

Eventually, there will probably be more than 10 approved airlines. JAX may move higher on the list in that event. It's likely a lot of the traffic will continue to be from Florida and the Southeast, which would put us in good position.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

While the Airport Authority can push for it, the real people pushing for it that Uncle Sam decides for are the Airlines. As an example, Delta applied for Atlanta, Miami, and New York-JFK and got all three (though I think they wanted more frequency on one of them).

Silver Airways applied for JAX-Havana, but wasn't approved for any. Not surprising, as apparently the limit was 20 flights through trade agreements and with a 20 flight limit they aren't going to approve someone round 1 that only flies small turboprops. They approved what they viewed were the route that would serve the most people.

None of the big airlines applied for a route out of JAX.
