Press release just came in via email....

QuoteJACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Sleiman Enterprises announces The Jacksonville Landing's new Thai sushi restaurant with an anticipated grand opening date of September 1.

Lanna Thai Sushi is the sister location to Tamarind Thai, located in Jacksonville's Five Points. It fills the previous Koja restaurant location's 4,038 indoor square feet space. The new restaurant is hiring part- and full-time employees and signed a five year lease.

"This is a wave of progress for The Jacksonville Landing," said Toney Sleiman. "As additional tenants enter The Jacksonville Landing, we continue to look toward the future of a thriving downtown."

New menu items to Lanna Thai Sushi include a $7.95 lunch menu, sushi and a full bar with specialty cocktails starting at $5. Popular menu items include: pad thai noodles, panang curry beef, lab gai chicken salad and siam tofu.

"We picked The Jacksonville Landing because it's an icon of the city and we wanted to give people visiting The Landing a great place to dine," said Lanna Thai Sushi owner Chad Rattanachomphoo. "We focus on quality food in a unique environment. We want guests to feel like they are in Thailand."

Interior renovations are expected to take two months. Plans include adding decorative woodwork on the walls and remodeling the bar to include a sushi station.

Guest enjoy seating inside, as well as outside on the large patio area. The patio overlooks the best views of the St. Johns River and the Landing's main stage, which features live music on the weekends. The new restaurant serves lunch and dinner seven days a week, including late-night hours.

Hopefully this is a little better than Koja and they do a better job of keeping the rats out. The two times I visited Koja (3 years apart I saw rats scurrying about. Needless to say I never went back. 1 time is forgivable, but twice... Barf  :o

"a wave of progress for the Landing"

I think we need a few more tenants sign up before it reaches wave proportions.

LOL @ wave of progress. Make the Landing look like its not something from the 1980's. Then maybe you can claim "progress"

Yeah; long as Tony is pocketing money, yes there is progress for him and to him that is "a thriving downtown." He needs to upgrade or replace the Landing, plain and simple. I know money and other factors play in (city admin support, etc.), but if he wants to really contribute to the success of downtown and a "thriving downtown," he needs to step up with either renovating or reconstructing the Landing.
