Body switching has been a staple of sci-fi (and fiction more broadly) for millennia. But when done well, it can still be quite gripping, as is the case with Trial, a new sci-fi short from UK filmmakers the Brothers Lynch (no relation to David, I presume). The film begins with a wounded soldier being presented an opportunity to inhabit a younger, more able empty body (Tom Cullen of Downton Abbey fame, who's no stranger to the genre), which naturally proves too good to be true. It's pretty dark and violent, but it is thought provoking. According to io9, the short is meant to serve as the catalyst for financing a full-length feature film called Residual.

In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."
