Does anyone here know if JTA is applying for any TIGER grants in 2016?

Government officials say $500 million in TIGER grants are available

WASHINGTON — The Department of Transportation says that $500 million will be made available for transportation projects throughout the country under an eighth round of the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery competitive grant program.

Like the first seven rounds, 2016 TIGER grants will fund capital investments in surface transportation infrastructure and will be awarded on a competitive basis for projects that will have a significant, positive affect on the nation, a metropolitan area, or a region. Dozens of rail projects across the nation have received grants through the program, so far.

Since 2009, TIGER has provided nearly $4.6 billion to 381 projects in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Demand has been overwhelming, and during the previous seven rounds, the Department of Transportation received more than 6,700 applications requesting more than $134 billion for transportation projects.

TIGER funding is provided in the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2016, signed by President Barack Obama on Dec. 18, 2015. Applications are due April 29, 2016.

Question. Is it better to stick with one project and continue to refine and apply for it until you get some cash or promote a different project each TIGER grant cycle?

Different project each cycle.  Look at the types of projects that is being awarded.  There's a reason why they aren't awarding to JTA; their projects aren't what they're looking for.

What types of projects are they looking for and what you be a good local TIGER grant project for Jax?

Large $10M+ projects.  JTAs goal, in the past, has been to aim for the little projects, or "crumbs", that USDOT could easily cover.

I don't know of any seriously large projects that JTA has.  They've been aiming so small lately.  Remember when JTA was trying to build the flyover at I-95/JTB?  They could never get it done, so FDOT is doing it.

I guess Nat is trying to build momentum?

Wait. didn't the JTA qualify for a TIGER grant to get that Flyer BRT down Lem Turner? And weren't they applying to get BRT going down to the Beaches?

^No. I believe that was FTA New Starts funding. However, COJ and Jaxport won $10 million in TIGER grant money for the $45 million intermodal rail yard near Dames Point, a few years back.

The Skyway modernization and extension project was over $20 million.  Next argument please!

I must have missed your expert opinion somewhere in this long thread.
