But all that said, I still consider myself catholic. Culturally catholic or a catholic atheist, if that makes sense. It will always be a big part of who I am.

Adherence to the rites and rituals of the church while practicing the general concepts of the teachings or love and servitude without a blind devotion to a single, omnipotent spiritual being who already has your path laid before you?  I think I can relate a little and I'm not even catholic.
A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

I think Dara O'Briain (that comedian) once defined being a Catholic atheist as, "I don't believe in God, but I still hate Rangers". (Rangers being the notoriously sectarian Protestant soccer club from Glasgow).
"If you're going to play it out of tune, then play it out of tune properly."

1. You realize that given the times and changes in the south this was likely a group of democrats in front of the sign. But then again the Klan wasn't just in the south and "south" of the Mason Dixon line is somewhere in Penn.

2. Currently one might take away the thought, "Beware of who you rent the church to for meetings."

3. Sage advice, overstreet. But also, just as likely, "beware who you rent school auditorium to for meetings."

4. My personal favorite, which I think is still applicable to this generation of Americans as it was to those in the image, "Beware of using God's name in vain". Not as powerful, I know, but still relevant. Don't you think?
