What ever happened to the chickens?

Does anybody else remember chickens roaming freely on the Southbank in the area near MOSH, River City Brewing, and the fountain?  I think I remember this from the 1994/95 timeframe.

I mentioned this to someone the other day and they thought I was crazy.

I remember that.  A while ago the TU did an article about it with pictures.  If I remember correctly, they were nice looking chickens, with long plumage.

I think animal control rounded up chickens in Springfield so maybe the same thing happened to the Southbank chickens.

In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

good troll food huh?  I'm thinking they made dog food but I'm not sure.  There is a law that says roaming ducks, you know those old ugly looking black and white messy birds, that they are not covered by ethical treatment....so you can make dog food out of them and that's what some people do to them.  I'm not sure if chickes get afforded that same protection....but those ugly messy loud ducks are nothing more then dog food to me.

Likewise, a guest from Frankfurt said, “We don’t have a problem with pigeons in our parks. About six am every morning, they go out and shoot them.”
