This will apparently result in the demolition of another "historic" building, one of the oldest gas stations still around.  Used to be a Union 76 for a very long time.  Property appraiser shows it was built in 1952 making it 64 years old.  That seems relatively old for a gas station now-a-days, especially on the south side of the river :).

Florida Times Union:

QuoteDaily's is planning a convenience store and gas station on Hendricks Avenue in San Marco. It's planned for a little more than 1 acre between Dunkin' Donuts and Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church.

Gate Petroleum has a gas station and convenience store right across the street.

A limited liability corporation, NSHE Hendricks LLC of Tempe, Ariz., paid $1,325,000 for the three parcels last month. But there was no indication who that is or what it planned to do with the property.
Monday, Keith Daw, general counsel for Daily's owner First Coast Energy, said the company is planning a convenience store and gas station there, similar to the one the company opened less that two weeks ago on Atlantic Boulevard at the east end of San Marco.

The only difference, Daw said, is that the Hendricks store will not have a car wash because there's not enough room.

The store is still in the permitting stage, but he said the company hopes to break ground this spring and open by the end of this year or the beginning of 2017.

Daw said the company is also planning a new convenience store and gas station on Florida 13, just south of Race Track Road in North St. Johns County. The land is under contract but has not yet closed, he said.

I've known about this one for a while and while I'm not thrilled, I have an open mind after seeing what they did with the Atlantic store.  I'm guessing they'll have patio seating fronting Hendricks and the nice brick wrapped columns for the fuel canopy. Since this is across the street from the closest Gate station to John Peyton's house, this will make quite a statement.

Also, if they fully clear the property, looks like some nice trees may be coming out, based on the aerials.

Why so negative? Those old buildings have been falling apart for a while. Smart idea considering there's no gas on that side of the road from Baymeadows Rd to downtown.

^I'm not saying a gas station should or should not be allowed to open at this site, but I believe there's a Gate right across the street. In the grand scheme of things, everyone might as well get used to this. With WAWA coming into the market and Gate, Daily's, RaceTrac and 7-Eleven all expanding, look for a lot more gas stations to pop up across Jax and North Florida over the next few years.

Is it so hard to cross to the other side of Hendricks where there are stations?
