With the constant barrage of bad news that we're buried under on a daily basis, it's always nice to see a news story that is worth noting that doesn't involve scandal, death, or corruption.

On Wednesday, the Jaguars head coach formally launched The Jack Del Rio Foundation.  I think it's a great story, and worthy of discussion.

With a new contract in his pocket, Del Rio knows that he's secure here in Jacksonville.  He has been quite active in the local community in various charity efforts, but he has never been quite this deeply rooted in any endeavor.

The Jack Del Rio foundation will focus on faith-based charities.  The first organization earmarked as a beneficiary will be Seamark Ranch.  For anyone not familiar with the facility, it's a great concept that takes abused, at risk children and puts them into a loving, family environment at a 460+ acre ranch in Green Cove Springs.  The goal of the charity is to bring some normalcy to their lives, giving them a structured family dynamic, and providing them with professional counseling.  The Del Rio's have helped Seamark since it's inception, so it came as no surprise when they made this their first beneficiary.

In many instances, these charitable foundations are a feel good operation for the people who have their names attached.  For Jack Del Rio, this will be a hands-on effort.  He is underwriting all of the administrative costs of the organization so that they can assure that all donations go where they are needed.  It's not about touting himself.  It's about the kids and making sure that they have everything that they need to repair their damaged lives.

It's worth checking out the website for the foundation, and if you can get involved either as a volunteer or as a donor, give it a shot.  http://jackdelriofoundation.com

Thanks for posting FBT.  This is great news.  I was very excited to hear of Coach's contract extension.  He's doing great things for the Jags and great things for the community.
