JTA's 2015 TIGER Grant Application



The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has received 625 TIGER grant applications for 2015. They combine to add up to $9.8 billion, almost 20 times the $500 million set aside for the program. The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) has submitted an application of their own in hopes of getting a small piece of the pie. Here's a look at how JTA plans to transform Jacksonville's streets if the are successful this round.

So it seems that JTA is going to use this grant, should they get it, to put those other BRT routes into place while also tackling some other odds and ends. Is that correct?

^ It is more about making street improvements that complement the BRT....things like wider sidewalks, bike lanes, mid-block crossings, etc.

All very important - riding a bike/being a pedestrian in Jax is extremely dangerous. Sadly, most Florida cities are like that. I wish we would become a leader and set an example for the rest of the state.

Could you imagine if we were the Denver of the SE?

Probably didn't get anything. The TIGER grant process is very competitive. Tons of great projects across the country fighting for pennies on a dollar. We just got $10 million for the railyard at the port a few years back, so I'm pretty skeptical of us winning a decent sum of cash anytime soon.

No money for Florida and Georgia. Charlotte got some cash again. This time, for an intermodal transportation center. Birmingham won $20 million for a 15-mile BRT project. Here's the list of projects awarded 2015 TIGER Grant money:
