Sen. Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, will visit Jacksonville on June 20, according to people familiar with plans for the visit.
Obama is expected to attend a $500-a-person fundraiser at the Prime Osborn Convention Center.
It will be his first trip to the city since last year, when his campaign in Florida was cut short by disagreements over the date of the state’s presidential primary.

I can hardly contain my excitement.   :-X

I'm surprised he's even coming to Jacksonville. Don't the good ol boys and god fearin' church folk usually tilt us 70% in the favor of  whichever republican is running that year ?

Driven1

true - you would think he would find the audience he is looking for in like San Fran or Berkeley.

He got 75k in Portland, Oregon, 35k in Philly and 30k in Columbia, SC.

only 75k in Portland?  i would've thought he would've drawn a bigger crowd there.  i would think Seattle would be a decent crowd too.

Big crowds dont prove that a victory is about to occur.  Following the huge turnout for Obama in Philadelphia, he promptly loss the state to Clinton by 10 points.  He will also surely lose South Carolina in the general despite the large turnout there.

It's a fundraiser only, at least at the moment.   You go where the untapped money is.

If a general public event is added, it would no doubt be attended by thousands.  There is no substitute for an in-person impression.

75,000 for a political rally is HUGE, and almost unheard of. It indicates broad grassroots support.

Damn, riverside, if he cant carry s.c. what will he carry? and i think youre right. us demos can only hope that disgust in the govrnment will propel voters to vote against the republican status quo. and mc cain is already distancing himself from that status quo. and actually has always.

It is huge, but the mega-indie band the decemberist were playing before the  rally that day and as we all know, Portlanders love their indierock so I bet you that's why half of the crowd was there. Either way, ....yea it is alot of people regardless. I just wanted to debate myself.
