Among Groundwork Jacksonville's many goals is to see the city's natural and community assets redeveloped.
The project the organization is currently throwing its support behind would achieve that mission.

Groundwork Jacksonville, under newly appointed CEO Dawn Emerick, is leading a public workshop Monday and Tuesday to develop consensus around a conceptual plan to link the neighborhoods of Springfield and Eastside to the Hogans Creek Greenway through the S-Line Rail Trail.

The 4.8-mile stretch of abandoned CSX railway is owned by the City of Jacksonville, which is going to bid out work on the trail's reconstruction sometime later this summer.

As part of a master plan by Jacksonille's Parks and Recreation Department, connections along the route need to be better established, and that's what Groundwork is trying to push forward. The grassroots group, along with the city, will likely apply for grant funding through the Department of Transportation to fund the improvements.
