Wondering how to fix Liberty Street? So is the city

Demolition, underwater inspection, reconstruction: There's plenty of work in the foreseeable future for Liberty Street.
On May 19, a request for proposals was sent out by the city of Jacksonville's department of public works to seek bids for demolition of the area that collapsed earlier this year, said Jim Robinson, director of public works. The demolition is to clear the way for the Florida Department of Transportation to inspect the collapse area, including examining the parts of the bridge below water level.

Bids are due June 10, and Robinson said that because the project has already been funded by the City Council, the process of granting a contract and beginning construction should move fairly quickly.

In the meantime, Robinson said there was some good news from FDOT. Because an unrelated bridge study had been halted, money was available in the department's budget that could be used to deal with Coastline Drive.

"There is some residual funding, close to $1 million," he said, "that DOT has offered up to us to leverage with their consulting the remaining tasks that are more pertinent now."

That includes additional repair work on Coastline Drive in front of the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront hotel, which has a special traffic control plan in place.

Looks like the city is going to guarantee the road in front of the Hyatt no matter what.  Including the possibility of filling in the river up to the bulkhead.  For the closed area (the rest of Coastal, Liberty, and the parking lot) three options will be considered. 1) repair, 2) demolition, 3) filling the area up to the Riverwalk bulkhead.

In the end it will come down to money.  My guess is that it will be some combination of all 3 options, and will be tied to the courthouse redevelopment.  Since DIA says the courthouse is a dead issue until the Landing and the Shipyards are underway (or maybe finished?)
